Lima Event Landscape
Lima is South America's third-largest city and Peru's commercial and financial capital, hosting major mining and extractives investment conferences (Peru is the world's second-largest copper producer), Pacific Alliance summits, Pan-American multilateral events, and a growing technology and innovation event calendar. The Lima Convention Centre (LCC), Westin Lima Hotel and Convention Centre, JW Marriott Lima, and the Swissotel Lima are the principal international conference properties. Lima's role in Latin American commercial events is growing as Peru's GDP growth profile attracts increasing foreign investment interest.
SUCAMEC Licensing
Event security providers in Peru must be registered with SUCAMEC (Superintendencia Nacional de Control de Servicios de Seguridad, Armas, Municiones y Explosivos de Uso Civil). The company needs SUCAMEC authorisation under Legislative Decree 1213 and its 2023 regulation. Armed security at events also needs a SUCAMEC use licence for each firearm under Law 30299. Express Kidnapping and High-Value Delegate Risk
Express kidnapping, in which delegates are briefly abducted and forced to make ATM or electronic transfers, is documented in Lima and specifically targets individuals identified as high-value from their affiliation with mining, finance, or international organisations. Event security for Lima conferences includes: all delegate movements outside the venue using pre-vetted SUCAMEC-licensed transport; no street ATM use; cash pre-arranged by the event logistics team; no delegate movements on foot in the Miraflores and San Isidro commercial areas after dark without escort; and a specific delegate awareness briefing on express kidnapping protocol.
Venue Access Control
Lima conference venue access control applies: vehicle access barriers and search protocol at the hotel compound entry; x-ray and wand screening for all conference attendees; a pre-registered delegate list with ID verification; plain-clothes security on the conference floor; and specific management of the Miraflores and San Isidro public-access hotel approaches, which are adjacent to the hotel zone but open to the general public. The Lima Convention Centre has its own venue security infrastructure; event security supplements it with delegate transport management and the specific express kidnapping prevention protocol.
Jorge Chavez Airport Delegate Transfers
Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) is located in Callao, approximately 11 kilometres from the principal conference hotel zone in Miraflores and San Isidro. The transfer takes 25 to 45 minutes under normal conditions; Lima peak-hour traffic on the Faucett and Javier Prado corridors can extend this to 60 to 90 minutes. Delegate arrivals at LIM are met inside the terminal with ID-confirmed vetted SUCAMEC-licensed transport. The Callao district on the airport approach is a documented higher-crime zone; arrivals are managed to minimise loitering time in the airport vehicle zone.
Medical Provision and Emergency Planning
Lima has a developed private medical sector by regional standards. Private clinics in San Isidro and Miraflores are the primary facilities for international delegates, and the on-call clinic is named and confirmed in the event plan rather than assumed. National emergency numbers are police 105, ambulance 106, and fire 116. For specialist cases beyond Lima's capacity, air evacuation is arranged through the medevac provider at the time, with the receiving facility confirmed as part of that arrangement.
