The security context
Bangkok’s terrorism risk is lower than Istanbul, Nairobi, or Mexico City. The city’s last significant terrorist attack was the 2015 Erawan shrine bombing, which killed 20 people at a tourist location. Subsequent attacks have been smaller. This is not a low-risk terrorism environment but the frequency of mass-casualty incidents is lower than in several other cities where major conferences are held.
The more specific risks at Bangkok corporate events are fraud-related. Bangkok is one of the world’s leading centres for sophisticated investment fraud targeting corporate executives.
